Role overview

Role

We’re hiring a Senior DevOps Engineer to take primary ownership of our infrastructure platform.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys operating critical systems at scale and taking end-to-end responsibility for reliability, security, and operational excellence. You’ll lead the day-to-day evolution of the platform while partnering closely with senior engineers who provide architectural support and institutional context.

You will help define the roadmap, drive technical decisions, and own outcomes across infrastructure, observability, security, and production operations.

Because STX operates in highly regulated jurisdictions including AGCO/iGO in Ontario and the CFTC in the United States, strong operational discipline, auditability, and security hygiene are essential.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Own and operate AWS infrastructure end-to-end using Terraform and Terragrunt across multiple accounts and regions.
  • Manage and evolve EKS clusters supporting trading, API, and data platforms.
  • Operate stateful production systems including PostgreSQL/Aurora and MSK (Kafka).
  • Lead patching, vulnerability management, Kubernetes upgrades, and security hardening initiatives.
  • Own and improve the observability stack using Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and Tempo.
  • Design and operate backup, disaster recovery, and failover strategies across environments and regions.
  • Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and GitHub Actions.
  • Manage secrets and IAM strategy using SOPS, AWS KMS, and multi-account AWS organizations.
  • Lead incident response, capacity planning, and infrastructure cost optimization.
  • Mentor future infrastructure hires and help shape platform engineering practices as the company scales.

Requirements

Required

  • 6+ years of DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering experience.
  • Experience operating production systems in regulated industries such as fintech, gaming, healthcare, or exchanges.
  • Strong experience owning and operating production infrastructure at scale.
  • Deep Terraform experience in real-world production environments.
  • Production Kubernetes experience, ideally with EKS.
  • Strong AWS expertise across IAM, VPC, RDS, KMS, Route53, S3, and multi-account architectures.
  • Experience designing and operating HA/DR systems with defined RPO/RTO objectives.
  • Hands-on experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and Tempo.
  • Strong background in patching, vulnerability remediation, and cloud security hardening.
  • CI/CD experience with Jenkins and GitHub Actions.
  • Strong Linux, Docker, and scripting experience.
  • Experience with least-privilege IAM and secrets management best practices.
  • Excellent written communication and disciplined change-management practices.
  • 5+ years of work experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Experience working in a remote setting.
  • 3+ years of work experience with Kubernetes.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
